Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for either a Nurse Associate, Assistant Practitioner, experienced care support worker, or therapy assistant wanting to develop their skills, within the Spinal Cord Injury outreach team.

This team has been formed as part of the NHSE/I commitment to improving and transforming the lifelong care of patients with Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) working collaboratively with Southport Spinal Cord Injury Centre.

The team provides support to SCI patients within Salford Care Organisation and other inpatient hospital settings across Greater Manchester.

They work alongside Southport SCI outreach team to ensure equitable provision of care for patients following SCI aiming to minimise complications, optimise outcomes, and to minimise delays in transfer to rehabilitation settings.

There is an opportunity for applications to be considered at Band 3 level, with support provided to achieve the personal specification requirements for the Band 4 position.

Main duties of the job

This Band 4 role will primarily support the nurse specialist in the management of nursing cares provided to SCI patients. They will also work with the team occupational therapist, physiotherapists, and speech and language therapist to provide functional rehabilitation and exercise plans.

The postholder will be highly motivated and keen to develop enhanced skills, particularly with regards to supporting bladder and bowel management regimes, and the physical abilities needed to promote independence wherever possible.

They will support the SCI outreach MDT, in the delivery of patient assessment, daily management plans and exercise and activity programmes.

This postholder will also support education and advice to patients, other professionals, families, and carers.

The successful candidate will have a strong interest in spinal cord injury management, be motivated and should strive to provide a high a level of nursing care, rehabilitation, and education.

Strong interpersonal skills and a positive, proactive approach to service and professional development are essential.

Excellent organisational abilities and the flexibility to travel across Greater Manchester will also be required.
