Job summary
The Professional Midwifery Advocate (PMA) will support the Lead for Professional Practice and A-EQUIP in developing a framework to support full implementation of the A-EQUIP (Advocating for Education and Quality Improvement) model. This model provides a continuous improvement process that builds upon personal and professional resilience, enhances quality of care, and supports preparedness for registered midwives/nurses in appraisal and professional revalidation.The aim is that this continuous improvement process of the “A-EQUIP” model will become an intrinsic part of everyone’s job, every day, in all parts of the system. Thus, the post holder will assist the Trust by implementing the elements of the A-EQUIP model utilising the guidance issued by NHS England in April 2017.
Qualifications
Essential
- Registered Midwife
- Evidence of first-degree level study or equivalent
- Completion of an approved programme of study leading to the Professional Midwifery Advocate qualification, at Masters (level 7) level
- Evidence of continuing professional development
Knowledge
Essential
- Experience of PMA work post completion of study
- Able to demonstrate expert knowledge and experience
- Audit/ Risk Management/ Research experience
- Able to demonstrate commitment to continuous improvement
Desirable
- Experience of implementing and leading a PMA service
PROFESSIONAL / MANAGERIAL / SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE
Essential
- Must have a robust knowledge of the principles underpinning the A-EQUIP model, experience of communicating this to colleagues when performing RCSand have
- Have the ability to deputise for the Lead for Professional Practice and A-EQUIP, in leading the team in promoting the model within the Trust
- Report writing skills
- Digitally literate and able to use Microsoft office packages

- Effective time management skills, planning and organizing a range of complex activities such as an education programme or group clinical supervision
- Ability to work as part of a team; working clinically when required, acting as a role model and mentor to the wider team
