An exciting opportunity to join our 0-19 (25) Integrated specialist Public Health Nursing (IPHN) team as a public health nurse.
The role involves supporting our specialist school nurses and health visitors in supporting all aged children across Hull.
The public health nurse works directly with young people, parents, carers and families to promote public health and protect by delivering the Healthy Child Programme under the delegation of the health visitor or school nurse (SCPHN). They offer development reviews to younger children and regular support to children and young people in school and provide PHSE sessions. It may also involve immunisating 0-5 year olds in the home address or clinics.
This is an all year round role.
The role is based in Hull, We have 3 bases around the city and the role covers city wide.
Main duties of the job
Responsible for the effective delivery of care packages to an identified caseload of children and young people, their families and carers, as delegated by the Integrated Specialist Public Health Nurse ( 5-19)
There will be a requirement to provide a service between 8.00 am – 6.00 pm over a 5-day Monday – Friday period, to meet the needs of Children and Young People and service delivery.
Maintain, as part of continual professional development, up to date clinical knowledge/skills in public health nursing, using information to effect change in practice and ensuring the effective dissemination of new knowledge.
Develop and implement personal knowledge to enable the effective delivery of quality care to children and young people, and their families/carers
Demonstrate a range of clinical interventions, procedures and practices which are evidence based and relevant to the clinical area
Person Specification
qualifications and knowledge
Essential
- Live on part 3 or 13 of the NMC register
- Willingness to undertake mentorship training and responsibilities
- A broad understanding of relevant policy, legislation and their application to clinical service area
Desirable
- Be live on register of mentors
- Evidence of current CPD/formal qualifications at an advanced level
- Full understanding of relevant policy and drivers and their application to clinical service area
Experience
Essential
- Willingness to undertake and complete preceptorship
- Appropriate knowledge/ experience of working in community/public health nursing
- Understanding of caseload management responsabilities
Desirable
- Evidence of promoting/supporting active user/carer involvement/participation
Skills and competencies
Essential
- Able to demonstrate effective interpersonal/communication skills
- Ability to commute between the various sites
- Evidence of good time management skills

- Successful completion of preceptorship Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) relevant to the clinical area at specialist level of care
