Job summary
An opportunity has arisen to join the Sexual Health services as a Sexual Health nurse working across Northumbria NHS Trust. We wish to appoint a Sexual Health Nurse to work delivering Integrated Sexual Health Services including contraception provision and STI screening to patients aged 13 years and over. We will provide our staff with training opportunities to enhance their skills, knowledge and career progression within the Sexual Health service, while providing high quality and safe service in line with the Trust Values.
The post is permanent mainly working across the service within the hours of 08:30 to 19:30 Monday to Friday.
Job responsibilities
- Promote and effectively use all methods of communication.
- Demonstrate excellent personal communication. Establish and maintain effective two-way communication channels with individuals and groups.
- Responsible for ensuring own clinical practice complies with data protection/Confidentiality/Fraser guidelines and Caldicott principles.
- Convey complex information effectively to patients and staff often in potential crisis situations.
- Participate in the assessment of factors which might negatively affect patients sexual health and refer or signpost to more appropriate services as necessary.
- Provide a non-judgmental, sensitive approach at all times with a solid understanding of equality and diversity issues.
- Actively contribute to supervision, individual and peer-group and to appraisal process.
- Must be able to demonstrate the English language proficiency level required for this post.
Person Specification
Qualifications / Professional Registration
Essential
- Registered Nurse – Part 1 of register
- Study at degree level or equivalent level of experience
- Evidence of qualification to undertake the supervision, teaching and assessing of students (essential requirement for post, expectation this will be completed within an 18-month period).
Experience and knowledge

- Experience of teaching or mentoring nurses.
- Post registration clinical experience.
- Experience working in a busy outpatient setting
