A fantastic opportunity has arisen to work with a dynamic forward thinking, diabetes team at The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. We are searching for a Band 7 Diabetes Nurse Specialists to support inpatient and outpatient services.
We are in search of experienced Diabetes Specialist Nurses. You will be instrumental in ensuring the delivery of the highest possible standards and quality of care for our inpatients and outpatients services. All of our actions are guided by our trust world-class values.
You will acquire experience in a clinical setting by managing your own caseload of patients, delivering structured education sessions to staff and patients. Whilst enhancing your own skills with the management of patients with complex Type 2 diabetes, Type 1 and diabetes technology.
The applicant will be expected to demonstrate adaptability in their ability to provide assistance to both inpatient and outpatient services. The applicant will be expected to possess exceptional IT skills.
The recruitment is for a DSN based at The Royal Free Hospital. The nursing team is managed across the RFL sites which does require DSNs to provide support to all our services at Royal Free, Barnet, Chase Farm, and Edgware Hospitals. We would consider a development post to support the progression to a Band 7.
Main duties of the job
o To provide autonomous diabetes care for patients with Diabetes using advanced clinical skills and knowledge of the specialityo To lead and autonomously manage a caseload of patients with Diabetes, who have multiple and complex needs including complex Type 1 and 2 Diabetes, ante-natal, renal, transition and initiation of CGM/pump therapy within the inpatient and outpatient Diabetes service.o To take responsibility for own evidence-based practice and implement and add to the body of knowledge that supports nursing practice within Diabetes.o To lead and innovate diabetes related specialist practice, both within the Trust and through local networks.o To develop diabetes guidelines, protocols and policies for the Trusto To develop all staff within the multidisciplinary team, providing support, advice, formal and informal education.o To actively contribute to and participate in the delivery of Trust-wide multi disciplinary mandatory training and teaching.o To provide specialist advice to inpatient diabetes service by receiving direct referrals from members of other multi-disciplinary teams
Education & professional Qualifications

- oRelevant 1st degree to specialist Diabetes care
- oRegistered nurse

- oDAFNE (Dose adjustment for normal eating or equivalent
- oRecognised teaching or mentorship qualification
- oAdvanced clinical assessment skills
- oNon-medical prescriber
- oEducated to or willing to work to Masters level education
Experience

- oRecent extensive experience in specialist diabetes care at CNS level.
- oExperience in teaching multidisciplinary staff.
- oAble to demonstrate contribution to clinical protocols.
- oExperience of supervising other healthcare professionals
