Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic, caring and dedicated nurse to join a team of Asthma Interface Specialist Nurses who work across Hywel Dda Health Board This post will be based in Llanelli cluster, supporting primary care practices in the area but may be required to work across the Health Board. They would also be required to support the Difficult Asthma Clinic at Glangwili General Hospital.
This post is part time for 30 hours a week
The post holder will provide a dual role working across both primary and secondary care. In primary care they will work within the asthma services patient group to review their care and ensure it meets with NICE guidance.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will support practice nurses in a way that is appropriate for each individual practice. This may mean supporting development of the practice nurse or in some practices seeing the more complex patients in a designated clinic.
In secondary care they will support the severe asthma service. This support will include seeing severe asthma patients in clinic under the supervision of the severe asthma lead. Managing patients on biologic medication including prescribing biologic medication for this group.
The post holder will also attend the all Wales asthma MDT presenting patients if necessary and will initiate biologic therapy on those patients who are deemed appropriate. Patients will also be discontinued if they do not meet NICE criteria.
Patients who are identified in primary care who are deemed as potential biologic candidates will be discussed with the severe asthma lead and investigations initiated prior to review in clinic.
Across the interface they will support innovations in respiratory research.The post holder is required to ensure good links between primary, community and secondary care services are upheld to support the asthma patient’s journey through their care pathway.
Qualifications & Knowledge
Essential
- Registered Nurse Part 1 NMC register
- Holder of a degree or equivalent qualification or relevant experience
- Non-medical prescriber
- Recognised advanced level respiratory course to Masters level
- Expert knowledge in the field of respiratory care and demonstrable practice, in particular Asthma

- ARTP accredited Spirometry certificate
- Advanced Inhaler Technique trainer
- Teaching qualification
- Involvement in change management
- Good Clinical Practice Certificate for research
- Published work
Experience
Essential
- Relevant post registration experience including experience in respiratory care
- Use of FENO testing as part of the patient assessment

- Experience of undertaking audits, writing reports and presenting to groups of health and social care professionals
