Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Stoma Nurse Specialist position within Manchester University Foundation Trust, supporting the Colorectal and General Surgery Service across Manchester Royal Infirmary and the community . This role offers a chance to join an experienced team of Stoma Nurses.
This position offers an exciting opportunity for a skilled and experienced Surgical Nurse to contribute to the development of Stoma services while working within a well-supported, specialist team. Working alongside the consultants and ward teams to develop and enhance stoma pathways, making it an excellent choice for those looking to expand their expertise and leadership capabilities within the field of stoma care.

Main duties of the job
- Clinical Expertise: Provide clinical care and advice to patients with stomas, particularly those undergoing bowel resections, cystectomies, and stoma formation surgeries.
- Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with medical staff, dietitians, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to manage patient care.
- Autonomous Practice: Lead nurse-led clinics and participate in clinical audits to ensure high standards of care. Monitor and care for patients in the community.
- Education and Training: Provide education to patients, staff, and the wider multidisciplinary team, across multiple sites.
- Patient Support: Offer ongoing support to patients with established stomas and refer them to community services as needed.
Qualifications
Essential
- Current NMC registration
- Post-registration qualification in relevant specialist nursing or equivalent experience
- Advanced communication skills training or willingness to undertake
- Recognised teaching qualification or willingness to work towards with organisational support
Desirable
- Clinical examination skills level 7 or willingness to work towards
- Formal qualification in teaching of adults
- Formal qualification in non-medical prescribing or willing to work towards
Experience

- Relevant post registration experience at band 5 or above within Colorectal/General surgery
- Leadership & management experience
- Experience of contributing to audit and research
- Experience of multiprofessional working
- Experience mentoring/supervising others
- Experience of managing change
Desirable
- Previous experience working at band 6 level.
