Day surgery services and Main Theatre services are now managed by one team. The service covers Day Surgery Unit, Day Surgery Theatres and Day Surgery Recovery.

Day Surgery Unit functions from 07:00 hours to 22:00 hours.

In this role you will work as a competent member of the day surgery team, performing a wide range of duties in all areas . The efficient use of the Trust’s resources is dependent on the effectiveness of all the staff in the department.

You will undertake the training and mentorship of the junior staff as well as educating clinicians new to the department on the workings of both units.

The successful applicant will be based in Theatre team within the DSU.

The post holder will support the trained members of staff in making the day surgery unit safe and pleasant for patients and staff and will be expected to undergo training as necessary.

Main duties of the job

Your role will be to provide care to the pre and post operative patients.

Therefore, experience of team work, team values and safe patient care is very important to this role.

The department is primarily nurse led and nurses are responsible for surgical patients from admission to discharge. The position within the Day Surgery Unit includes becoming an independent practitioner and this involves working mainly in theatres, whilst also supporting ward and recovery.

Following successful completion of competencies, you will undertake the full range of duties appropriate to their work allocation without supervision working closely with all members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure all patients receive the highest possible standard of care, supported by evidence-based practice.

Your role will access, plan, implement and evaluate holistic, high quality and Individualised care which respects patient personal dignity and beliefs, ensure all patients receive a high standard of care in line with evidence-based practice and maintain a safe working environment for patients, visitors and staff.
