Job summary
The Emergency Department at the Luton & Dunstable Hospital is one of the busiest in the region. Due to Luton’s unique location we see injuries from both urban and rural settings. The department is made up of several locations including Adult ED, Paediatric ED and Minor injuries, with an onsite GP service. The multidisciplinary teams we work closely with involve frailty, physiotherapy, clinical navigation and mental health.
We are looking to welcomeRegistered Nurses with NMC registration and PIN already available and preferably with experience to our Emergency Department team. This is a great opportunity to develop clinical and leadership skills in a fast-paced and forward-thinking environment. We will support you to become confident in the assessment, recognition and management of patients within the emergency setting.
Our successful applicants will benefit from the internal and external courses and the support of our senior team and our practice development nurses. We hold in house training and actively engage with the multidisciplinary team to aid in teaching.

Main duties of the job
Professional Responsibilities
- Assess patient care needs and the development and implementation of programmes of patient care and participate in the evaluation of these.
- To ensure a high standard of nursing care is performed at all times and assist in the review and regular update of these standards.
- Ability to recognise and respond appropriately to changes in the patient’s condition and safety.
Management Responsibilities
- To manage the maintenance of an acceptable environment for patients, reporting and taking appropriate action on hazards and faulty equipment.
- To report incidents using the Trust electronic incident reporting system.
- Management of patients with regard to their nursing /clinical needs as directed by the nurse in charge.
Professional and Legal Responsibilities
- Maintain professional portfolio.
- Maintain clinical study to fulfil professional registration and show evidence ofcontinuing professional development.
- To uphold the principles of the NMC code of professional conduct.
- To be conversant with all the Nursing policies and Procedures.

- Venepuncture and Cannulation
- Competent in the administration of intravenous medication
