We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 6 Children’s Research Nurse to join our Children’s Research Team.
Our research programme takes a holistic approach to patient care and makes an important contribution to improving healthcare and outcomes for children and young people.
As a Children’s Research Nurse, you will play a key role in the conduct, coordination and delivery of clinical research studies across The Royal London Hospital (RLH), Newham University Hospital (NUH) and Whipps Cross Hospital (WXH).
Working closely with the wider multidisciplinary team (MDT), investigators, sponsors, Research & Development (R&D) teams and clinical services, you will ensure that research studies are delivered safely, effectively and in accordance with:
- Study protocols and Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
- Barts Health policies and procedures
- Local and national guidance
- Relevant legislation and regulatory requirements
- High standards of clinical care and patient experience
Main duties of the job
You will have responsibility for managing your own caseload of children and their carers participating in clinical research studies. This will include assessing and managing care pathways, recruiting and educating participants, monitoring children throughout their study participation, and ensuring accurate and timely collection and documentation of research data.
You will contribute to the successful delivery of studies on the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) portfolio, ensuring studies are completed reliably, efficiently and within agreed timelines.
The post holder will work under the leadership of the Senior Research Nurse and Children’s Lead Research Nurse within the Royal London Hospital Children’s Clinical Research Facility.
Qualifications
Essential
- oRegistered Children’s Nurse with current NMC registration
- oFirst-level degree in nursing or relevant subject
- oEvidence of continuing professional development relevant to children’s nursing and/or clinical research
- oCurrent Good Clinical Practice (GCP) E6 (R3) training/certificate
Desirable
- oRelevant postgraduate qualification in clinical research, children’s nursing or a related area
- oHealthcare management or leadership qualification
Experience
Essential
- oSubstantial post-registration experience as a Children’s Nurse within an NHS or equivalent healthcare setting
- oExperience of working at Band 6 level or demonstrating equivalent knowledge, skills and experience.
- oExperience of recruiting patients/participants to research studies, including clinical trials, within a healthcare setting.
- oExperience of coordinating and managing the care of children and young people
- oExperience of working autonomously and managing an individual caseload
- oExperience of working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- oExperience of coordinating a shift, clinical area or service and providing support to junior colleagues
- oExperience of identifying, managing and escalating clinical or operational risks
- oExperience of learning from incidents, complaints or feedback and contributing to improvements in practice

- oExperience of working within a children’s clinical research environment
- oExperience of working across multiple clinical specialties or hospital sites.

- oSound understanding of current issues and developments in children’s nursing.
