Job summary
- As a member of the team works co-operatively with the multi-disciplinary team, ensures the effective and safe delivery of nursing care ensuring the highest possible standards of care received by patients and their carers while in the units.
- Works within agreed boundaries of practice giving support, guidance, supervision for staff nurses, students and receptionists for the unit.
- Developing skills and knowledge to assess, plan and deliver care as well as provide wound care and relevant discharge information. Refer to relevant speciality or outside agencies as required.
- Ensures safe, efficient, and effective treatment and discharge of all patients within a predefined target time of arrival to the CAU / PTC.
Job responsibilities
- Assessing patients on arrival to the Unit and prioritising them according to clinical need.
- Maintaining safety of the patients in the Unit.
- Supporting other members of the team in maintenance of high standards of care.
- Encourages evidence based, innovative practice in the delivery of nursing care and supports others in the implementation of changes identified to improve care.
- Ensures that all medical and emergency equipment is kept in a safe condition and is ready for use when required, and that faulty equipment is reported and/or replaced as necessary.
- Helps identify training needs of other staff, and communicates this information to the Senior Nursing Staff.
- Participates and may lead in Nursing and Clinical Audit in the unit, collecting information as required.
- Supports others in the application of local standards, policies and philosophies which further the philosophy of patient centred, individual and evidence based care for all patients.
- Has clinical nursing expertise underpinned by theory.
- Makes judgements on problems requiring investigation.
- Responsible for safe handling and storage of medicines and dressings.
- Liaises with members of the multidisciplinary team both within the department and beyond, to ensure care is delivered to the patient both effectively and efficiently.
- Updates relevant staff on the clinical condition of patients, their progress and maintains accurate nursing records for patients in the unit. Is able to communicate sensitive and complex information in a caring and professional manner.
- Reports complaints or concerns to the Senior staff member.

- Completed and obtained RN and has current live PIN on NMC register

Experience
Essential
- Minimum of 6 months post qualifying experience in an acute environment
- Experience in critical care/ emergency care
- Evidence of developing interpersonal skills
- Experience in supervision of student nurses/ allied health professionals
- Caring for ill people in a variety of settings
- Triage/ patient physical assessment skills
