An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated nurse to join our friendly, driven, passionate and nationally accredited Cardiac Rehabilitation services. The cardiac rehabilitation team provides a vital service to our patients who have suffered Acute Coronary Syndrome (STEMI & NSTEMI) and to those patients who are post coronary revascularisation (PCI and CABG surgery).

This post is for a qualified Nurse working 23 hours per week over three days, based at Good Hope Hospital, but may also have to cover other hospital sites (Birmingham Heartlands and Solihull Hospitals) as required.

This post will suit a dynamic and enthusiastic candidate who has a positive outlook and is able to motivate patients to make changes. Experience of working in an exercise environment and/or experience of exercising yourself will also be beneficial.

Main duties of the job

You will provide education to patients and their families’ pre discharge, develop individualised pharmacological and non-pharmacological plan for their Cardiac Rehab and communicate this effectively with primary care, to ensure a seamless service is offered to patients. Under the guidance of experienced Clinical Exercise Physiologists you will also support patients in the out-patient Cardiac Rehabilitation programme providing both health education and exercise supervision and guidance both remotely and face-to-face. This includes assessing patients’ suitability and risk stratification for core rehab (phase 3) and refer onto the most appropriate programme depending on patients risk and choice in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team.

You should have 3 years relevant post registration experience in cardiology/cardiac rehabilitation with evidence of continued professional development. You should have experience and/or a keen interest in the rehabilitation of cardiac patients and of those with chronic health conditions. You should also understand the process of behavioral change in order for patients to reduce their risk of further cardiac events and assist them in recovering to their best physical, psychological, social and vocational status. You will have excellent communication skills, be organised, a good team player and have time management skills to work under pressure alongside other members of the team. You will be expected to work autonomously and be able to make decisions.
