Job summary

In order to ensure that we continue to deliver excellent nursing care, we are currently recruiting qualified paediatric nurses to join our dynamic nursing team.
As part of our team, you will be supported in your own professional development, and encouraged to take personal ownership for the high levels of care we provide to our patients and their families.
The acute paediatric area consists of the following:
Fistral – 10 beds for medical and surgical patients and Acute Mental Health aged 11-16 years;
CLIC – 4 cubicles for children and young people with cancer and leukaemia
Harlyn – 8 day beds for surgical and medical.
Polkerris – 12 beds for children and young people with both medical and surgical problems.
Paediatric Assessment Unit for assessment and initial management.
Paediatric High Dependency Unit – 3 level two beds.
The successful candidate may be provided with the exciting opportunity to rotate between all of these areas.

Main duties of the job
To work as a skilled member of the nursing team to provide a high standard of holistic family centred care to the children and families.
To promote family centred care and establish good relationships withchildren and their families.
To communicate effectively at all levels within the multi-disciplinary team.
Qualification
Essential
- On part 8 or 15 of the NMC register.
Desirable
- HDU Qualification
- Acute Paediatrics – Post Qualification
Experience
Essential
- Previous Paediatrics experience
Desirable
- HDU Experience
- Post registration experience of caring for children with health needs, such as tracheostomies, enteral feeding, medication administration, oxygen therapy .
Knowledge & Skills
Essential
- Can recognise a deteriorating child and understand the escalation process
- Experience of advising families and professionals regarding a child or young persons condition and care needs.
Desirable
- Evidence of additional training e.g. Paediatric Observation, Venepuncture, cannulation, ECG
- Evidence of updating continuing professional development
- Intravenous trained and competent
