The Intensive Residential Outreach Care (IROC) service is an integrated multi-disciplinary approach providing the right support for CYP in placement with complex psychological and significant mental health needs.

This provision is hosted by TOUCAN (West Midlands CAMHS Provider Collaborative). The IROC service has recently been independently reviewed, and we have carefully considered key stakeholder feedback and recommendations. We are now in a better position to use the evidence to drive integrated health and social care-working. Main duties of the job

Intensive Residential Outreach Care (IROC) is an enhanced systems support service that offers relational, and trauma-informed approaches to support children and young people who present with the most complex psychological, emotional and behavioural distress in residential placement . IROC champions multi-agency integrated care planning to improve outcomes children and young people in CAMHS services.

The post-holder will champion the IROC agenda working closely alongside the Clinical Leads within IROC. Together we provide expert knowledge and advice. You will contribute alongside the team for the implementation of key procedural changes to improve the pathways and experience of CYP in crisis ensuring that training, supervision and specialist help is available to frontline clinical staff working with clinical complexity.

The post holder will be an experienced nurse leader in CAMHS, who can support the assessment and formulation of clinical care across complex settings including crisis care and community residential. The post-holder will be key in maintaining sustainable and meaningful relationships with key multi-agency partners at a system regional level.

The post holder will be responsible along with the clinical leads and wider MDT team for the implementation of key procedural changes to improve the pathways and experience of complex CYP, providing both clinical and operational leadership.

  • Able to use the Software and Competence with Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Sharepoint.
  • Ability to supervise registered staff as required, including staff appraisal and development, performance management skills and PDR process.

  • Knowledge of working with a wide variety of patient groups within Mental Health services, particularly in relation to children in care.
  • Working knowledge of the practices and approaches of other key disciplines, professions and agencies involved in the care system to include educational, MHA MCA, Children Act and Deprivation of Liberty Orders and criminal justice systems.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Mental Health/Learning Disability Nurse
  • Evidence of further academic achievement to at least first level degree, or equivalent experience.
  • Current NMC Registration

Desirable

  • Management Course
  • Non-Medical Prescriber

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Extensive CAMHS experience at management level i.e band 7 or above.
  • Experience of working with young people aged up to 18 with complex trauma within the children in care system and community settings applying trauma informed approaches and models.
  • Knowledge of NHS Direction and policy initiative
  • Experience of collaborative working in CAMHS across organisational boundaries.
  • Experience of leading on planning and delivery of service development in CAMHS.
  • Understanding of CAMHS Tier 4 mental health services, urgent care and community clinical pathways, and outcomes. including processes to support the management of patient flow.
  • Knowledge & understanding of safeguarding
  • Proven ability to provide clear clinical leadership and management skills, including clear objectives and motivate staff to achieve them.
  • Knowledge, understanding and experience in Risk Management and Governance issues
  • Knowledge & understanding of Patient/Public Involvement, management of complaints and investigations.
  • Knowledge of working with a wide variety of patient groups within Mental Health services, particularly in relation to children in care.EA/I
  • Working knowledge of the practices and approaches of other key disciplines, professions and agencies involved in the care system to include educational, MHA MCA, Children Act and Deprivation of Liberty Orders and criminal justice systems.

Desirable

  • Experience of representing mental health services in local and regional policy forums.
  • Proven change management skills
  • Experience in budgetary and resource management.
  • Management experience. Able to contribute supportively and confidently as part of a senior management team and across organisations
  • Evidence of leading initiatives within multi-professional teams.

  • Able to apply judgement to complex sets of facts or situations, which require analysis, interpretation and comparison of a range of options and making recommendations. This includes recognition of changing patient acuity or activity levels and the requirement to adjust staffing allocations, and to escalate for further support.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, engaging in complex communication situations where information is highly sensitive. Including having difficult conversations with patients, families or staff.
