Clinical:
- Ensure you and your team provide high standards of nursing care through on-going clinical assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of treatment for drug and alcohol users.
- Work with a high degree of autonomy and professional accountability to safely deliver the service needs
- Manage sensitive information empathically. This includes sharing and discussing a patients changing condition or needs with other relevant professionals.
- Lead on inter-professional and multidisciplinary working with the aim of ensuring continuity of care.
- Continuously evaluate, develop, and implement improvements for clinical and psychosocial service delivery.
- Participate and support staff in the safe management of high- risk areas and carry out risk assessments including:
- Handling hazardous material and body fluids
- Challenging behaviour and high-risk situations
- Adult/child safeguarding concerns
- Illicit Drug Use
- Promote the health and well-being of patients, supporting their often-complex needs to maintain their optimum level of physical and psychological health.
- Manage and support the delivery of bio-psychological and clinical care planning.
- Ensuring that needs assessments and treatment plans are reviewed and maintained in line with NMC and local guidelines.
- Ensure the 6 Cs are embedded in your clinical practise and the practise of your junior staff.
- Ensure that all aspects of professional behaviour and standards are practised in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct at all time

- Ability to assess and treat people with dual diagnosis
- Up to date medicines management competencies.
- IT literate: competent using Microsoft Word and able to report clinical activity data on patient information systems.
- Experience of managing a caseload within the community
- Ability to treat service users with respect and dignity at all times, adopting a culturally sensitive approach which considers the needs of the whole person
- Management experience
- Able to build constructive relationships with warmth and empathy, using good communication skills.

Previous Experience
Essential
- Relevant post-registration experience
- Substantial experience working in a drug and alcohol service.
- Experience of practising as an Independent Nurse Prescriber
- Experience of providing line management in a team
- Experience in undertaking Risk Assessments and Risk Management
- Experience of teaching others and willingness to undertake Teaching and Assessing qualification within six months of commencing post.
Desirable
- Community Nursing Experience.
- Experience of working in and delivering services to injecting drug users.
- Experienced in the supply and administration of Hepatitis vaccines.
- Advanced assessment skills
- Experience of practising as an Independent Nurse Prescriber.
Education and Qualifications
Essential
- RMN / RGN
- Evidence of continuing personal development and post-registration training in the nursing care assessment and treatment substance misuse clients.
- Relevant post graduate qualification
- V300 Independent Nurse Prescriber or applicant who is currently enrolled in an Independent Nurse Prescribing course
Desirable
- Degree/ Masters in Drugs and Alcohol Studies or equivalent qualification.
- Completed the Motivational Interviewing Training Module.
- Advanced assessment skills.
