Job summary
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated Specialist Nurse to work within our established services for patients with haemophilia and rare bleeding disorders. The post holder will be invited to work within a large multi-disciplinary team to help facilitate and support safe and effective care to patients across the region. The post holder will work alongside a Senior Nurse Specialist, providing clinical care and support to the patients whilst also giving advice and teaching to family members/carers and other healthcare professionals as required. The postholder will require excellent communication and IT skills, and be able to demonstrate commitment to ongoing learning and development in their specialist field.

Main duties of the job
- Holistic assessment: Evaluates the physical, psychological, and social needs of patients and their families, providing tailored support.
- Coordination of care: Liaises with and advises the multi-disciplinary team (doctors, GPs, other nurses) to ensure a seamless and timely pathway of care.
- Treatment support: Explains complex treatment options, assesses suitability for therapies.
- Provides clinical care as needed to ensure timely treatment delivery and assessment
- Psychological support: Delivers psychological support and helps patients and families cope with the emotional and practical impact of bleeding disorders
- Patient and family education: Provides specialist information about treatment, and available services.
- Communicates sensitive information
- Professional liaison: Acts as a specialist resource to advise and support other healthcare professionals involved in the patient’s care.
- Referrals: Makes referrals to other services and agencies to meet patient needs.
- Data collection and audit: Assists with data collection and audit to monitor and assess patient care and improve standards.
- Continuing professional development: Participates in appraisals and training to maintain and develop their skills and knowledge.

KNOWLEDGE
Essential
- Meets Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) requirements for mentorship if relevant to role
- Evidence of on-going continuous professional development
- Knowledge and understanding of relevant NHS policy or project specific policy context
- Has understanding / experience of adult / child safeguarding
SKILLS
Essential
- Good IT skills
- Effective report writing skills
- Able to work independently and as a member of a team
- Effective organisation and time management skills
- Current driving licence if relevant to role
Desirable
- Change management skills and involvement in project work
EXPERIENCE

- Some post registration experience within related specialist area of practice
- Extended clinical practice underpinned by training and assessment

QUALIFICATIONS

- Registered Nurse (appropriate to branch)
- Current NMC registration
- Diploma plus specialist qualifications / experience within specialist area; prepared to take degree level study
