This role is offered on a part time basis of 30 hours per week, this means that candidates interested in working part time are encouraged to apply and will receive a salary on a pro rata basis.
This is an exciting opportunity for a caring and compassionate children’s nurse to join ourChildren’s Outreach Nursing Service in providing safe and effective care for children and young people within home and community,
In this role, the post holder will provide clinical guidance and expert knowledge in assessing, implementing and evaluating the needs of this patient group. They will provide specialist clinical skills, teaching, education and support to enable families, carers and other professionals, to engage in managing the needs of children and young person.
Although the role is predominantly day time hours, participation is required in a 24/7 on call service, for those children who are requiring end of life care when required.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be based within the Children’s Outreach Nursing Service working within the Community Children’s Nursing (CCN) Team.
The post holder will assist the Lead Nurse in developing and maintaining a quality service for children and their families in accordance with the philosophy and standards of care within the Children’s Outreach Nursing Service and Children’s Unit.
The post holder will assess, implement and evaluate the nursing care and needs of children and their families on the CCN caseload, at home and in the community.
The post holder will promote and assist in delivery of high-quality nursing care to children and young people, educating, empowering and supporting them to manage their own health needs in the community and attend educational settings, while reducing hospital admissions and facilitating discharge.
The post holder will support supervision, training and competency assessment for families, support workers, education staff and healthcare professionals, to enable safe and effective care provision.
Qualifications
Essential
- RN (Child) first level registration or equivalent
- Evidence of on-going professional development
- Teaching/assessment qualification
- Willingness to undertake NMP qualification
- Professional knowledge acquired through degree supplemented by training and/or combination of additional post registration/postgraduate specialist training, experience and/or short course, CPD or equivalent. This could include experience of day-to-day operational management, leadership or mentorship of a clinical team
Desirable
- Specialist practitioner qualification (Children’s Community Nurse) or equivalent level of community experience
- NMP qualification
- Evidence of clinical leadership skills
Experience
Essential
- Significant and broad level of paediatric experience
- Community Children’s Nursing experience
- Evidence of managing critical situations
- Experience caring for children with complex medical needs
- Recent clinical experience in IV antibiotic administration, central venous access device care, feeding tube insertion, injections, and wound care
- Caseload management
Desirable
- Attendance at safeguarding and professionals’ meetings
